Cross-border concept put to a Test |
|
The border regions of Austria, Italy and Slovenia found together to host a unique cross-border short film festival - K3. The concept foresees a rotating system of hosting cities so that the audience gets to enjoy every year a different location with different language and culture – a true collaboration between the regions.
2012 Villach, Austria made the start. This year it will be the turn of Udine, Italy to host K3.
Bad timing for K3!
The economical and political situation in Italy is dramatic and as a consequence of it we made the first tough cut (what seems even more like an amputation): We had to cancel the international competition.
Until now there is not enough support from public funds in Italy and there is very little to be expected (only in the middle of July when the call would already be closed). It is impossible to guarantee a serious international competition when there is not even money for awards not even to be thought of hospitality or a catalogue.
In order to keep going we had to do this tough cut – tough for you and above all very tough for us.
This means that this year we will focus in local competition in Udine to increase the unique cross-border concept of K3, preparing the base for a proper international competition in 2014.
Thanks for your understanding!
PS: More than ever, we are looking to broaden our team. If you are interested in K3 and want to get involved with it, please contact us – no matter if you are just curious or a highly skilled professional. We got many vacant positions waiting for you! |

Call for entries is now open! |
|
This year we welcome you to Udine, Italy as host of the K3 short film festival. In Villach, Austria and Ljubljana, Slovenia local competitions take place. The unique concept of doing K3 in three countries gives us the big opportunity to get to know three different cultures through film and real-life meetings. At the same time especially this year it is a big challenge to make it possible. We apologize for the delay in calls which happened due to budgetary problems of the Italian section! Anyway we are ready to go now and we are looking forward to your entries and to an exciting K3 festival year.

DEEP END ART N°1
Ivan Ladislav Galeta | Croatia 2012 | 20´
Statement of Ben Russell: "DEEP END ART No.1" by Ivan Ladislav Galeta is confident and entire, a living system unto itself. The title alone is a declaration of an idiosyncratic worldview, one whose conceptual borders extend far beyond the video frame. While it is clear that Galeta takes real pleasure in bird and bee, in sunlight and flare, and in time and decay, this is not enough. Lucky for us, "Deep End" turns this pleasure into the very material of video; aided by close-up and audio-amplification, "Deep End" is a fresh-picked apple for our eyes and ears (mostly held in our left hands).

VOIDOV~
Manuel Knapp | A 2012 | 14´
Statement of the 3x3 Jury METKA DARIŠ, Art Director of Slovenska Kinoteka STEFANO MONTI, Creator and co-founder of art ex dono BARBARA PICHLER, Director of Diagonale – Festival for Austrian Film
To all of us the film was outstanding on different levels: Firstly for its innovative use of digital media and the creative transgressions of its possibilities. Secondly for its ingenious construction of space with a unique visual language and the dynamic relationship between image and sound. Thirdly despite its being a very minimal abstract work it incites a very physical reaction and creates the ultimate cinematic experience.
