K3 Film Festival | 10 years anniversary

SAVE THE DATE: September 21st – 25th 2016

A comprehensive program of short and feature films from Carinthia, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Slovenia and a industry meeting including the film commissions of all three regions.

This year, the K3 Film Festival celebrates its 10th anniversary. Spanning over several borders, the festival has been connecting the cultural and economic areas of Slovenia and Friuli Venezia Giulia with Carinthia (at the southern border of Austria).

Conceived with a sustainable positioning in the international landscape of festivals, K3 will from this year on have an even stronger focus on its neighbouring tri-cultural area. Of course there will still be an international program, although without the classic international short film competition. But the K3 team has opened a gateway for international filmmakers to access the regional competitions: if the film was shot in one of the three regions, it is eligible for submission regardless of the country of production and origin of the filmmaker.

And there’s more good news: this year there will be a grant for international filmmakers. The K3 Film Festival gladly invites filmmakers to come to Carinthia in the south of Austria to work for three months on a project of their own choosing. From script development to pre and post production of short and feature films, anything is possible.

In a necessary and consistent step towards the optimization of the festival’s synergies, the program that was until now presented on the pre-festivals in Klagenfurt, Udine and Ljubljana will be brought to Villach and no longer screened separately. This will allow the K3 Film Festival in Villach to offer the public an encompassing overview of the region’s film production, with the fascinating diversity that only festivals can capture.
